Actor and filmmaker Ben Stiller will moderate a conversation with William Shatner as part of the “Star Trek” panel at New York Comic-Con this Saturday, Variety has learned exclusively. It was previously reported that Shatner would take part in the panel, which comes as the “Star Trek” franchise is celebrating its 60th anniversary. The panel will take place on Oct. 10 from 3:15-4:15 pm ET on the Empire Stage at NYCC. In addition to the conversation between Shatner and Stiller, the panel will also feature the cast and creators of “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” Season 2, moderated by Collider’s Perri Nemiroff.
Stiller is a lifelong “Star Trek” fan and has frequently spoken about the impact the original series had on him and his career. He and Shatner have also collaborated a number of times in the past. Those collaborations include Stiller appearing in the documentary “The Truth Is in the Stars,” which Shatner hosted, while Shatner had a cameo alongside Stiller in the hit comedy feature “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.”
Stiller’s current slate includes “Severance” Season 3 for Apple TV, as well as starring roles in the Apple TV shows “Off Weeks” and “Protective Custody.” Up next, he will return to the “Meet the Parents” franchise with “Focker-in-Law” alongside Robert DeNiro and Ariana Grande, which premieres in theaters on Nov. 25. For the “Starfleet Academy” Season 2 portion of the panel, the panelists will include series stars Holly Hunter, Sandro Rosta, Bella Shepard, Karim Diané, and Robert Picardo, as well as co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau.
“Starfleet Academy” Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date, though it is slated to debut in 2027. As Variety exclusively reported in March, Season 2 will be the show’s final season.
