Faraz Shariat’s Thriller ‘Prosecution’ Sells to Memento in France Following World Premiere in the Berlinale’s Panorama Section (EXCLUSIVE)
Faraz Shariat’s thriller “Prosecution,” which had its world premiere in the Berlinale’s Panorama section, has been sold to Memento in France. New Europe Film Sales is handling world sales.
The film centers on young prosecutor Seyo Kim, who is determined to confront far-right violence in eastern Germany. But when she herself becomes a target – surviving a racist attack on her life – Seyo decides to investigate on her own, defying explicit orders from her superiors and putting her life and career at risk.

When she finally brings one of the attackers to trial, Seyo fights to expose him as part of a wider right-wing network: digging deep into her office’s archives, reopening long-closed “isolated cases,” and maneuvring witnesses into revealing the justice system’s ties – not only to the network, but to the attack on her own life.

The cast is led by Chen Emilie Yan, Julia Jentsch, Alev Irmak, Arnd Klawitter and Sebastian Urzendowsky. The screenwriter is Claudia Schaefer, and the producers are Paulina Lorenz, Jorgo Narjes and Shariat for Jünglinge Film.
Shariat is a German-Iranian filmmaker, whose coming-of-age feature debut “Futur Drei” premiered at Berlinale in 2020, and won the festival’s Teddy Award for Best Queer Film. Partly autobiographical, “Futur Drei” is the story of a confidently “out” second-generation German-born Iranian who falls for an Iranian refugee who has recently arrived in the West.
Since then, Faraz has directed episodes for the series “Druck,” as well as for the British high-end horror comedy “The Baby” for HBO/Sky, and German true crime anthology series “Zeit Verbrechen” (Paramount+). He executive produced “Schwarze Früchte” (ARD), a dramedy that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June 2024 and was released to critical acclaim in Germany in October 2024.

Shariat is a fellow of Villa Aurora in Los Angeles and is currently developing his English-language debut “The Beach Boy,” together with Ottessa Moshfegh.
