Fifth Season has announced the launch of Quite Contrary Pictures, a new non-scripted and documentary production banner headed by Emmy-winning executive Mary Lisio. Quite Contrary Pictures will serve as the new home for all of Fifth Season’s non-scripted works. Lisio will serve as president of Quite Contrary, building out a slate of documentary features, docuseries, and reality formats, working alongside talent, production partners, and IP.
Lisio will be joined at the new entity by several senior Fifth Season nonfiction executives, including executive producer Elissa Johnson, as they continue to work with the studio’s global team, including CEO Graham Taylor and long-time collaborator Ariel Richter.
Prior to her role as Fifth Season’s EVP of non-scripted development & production, Lisio was a senior executive at Blumhouse Television, and previously served as SVP of nonfiction and branded content for Ridley Scott’s Scott Free and RSA Films. In addition to winning an Emmy for the History Channel feature “Gettysburg”, Lisio was nominated twice more for “Killing Jesus” and “Killing Kennedy,” both for National Geographic. “Mary is a singular executive,” said Taylor. “Her expertise and vision are the reason we’ve been able to build the impressive non-scripted slate we have today. Establishing a new banner for that work empowers her and the entire Fifth Season team to keep scaling our non-scripted storytelling, while also providing the flexibility needed to navigate this fast-paced and evolving sector. I’m eager to see what we accomplish together next.”
Lisio added, “Quite Contrary is a natural evolution of the work we’ve done at Fifth Season for years. Moving forward, we’ll be better equipped than ever to create captivating non-scripted and documentary content for wide audiences. I’m grateful for the continued partnership of Graham, Ariel, and everyone at Fifth Season, and I look forward to working together to build on the great things we’ve already achieved together.” Recent Fifth Season non-scripted projects include “Folktales,” “Death Cap: The Mushroom Murders,” and the upcoming “Earth, Wind, & Fire” documentary. The studio’s other nonfiction titles include “McCartney 3, 2, 1,” “Being Mary Tyler Moore,” and “Superpower.”
