Filmhub Acquires Indie Dramedy ‘Burt’ Ahead of World Parkinson’s Day (EXCLUSIVE)
Global sales and distribution company Filmhub has acquired the rights to “Burt,” a micro-indie dramedy about an estranged father and son navigating Parkinson’s Disease.
The film stars Oliver Cooper and Burt Berger, who plays the title role of Burt, an aging street musician with Parkinson’s who is confronted by a young man (Cooper) claiming to be his son. The black-and-white shot movie unfolds over one intimate weekend following the life-altering encounter. “Burt” was inspired by Berger’s real life, and has been lauded for its moving and authentic portrayal of living with Parkinson’s.

“Burt” is directed by Joe Burke, whose father also lives with the illness. Burke co-wrote and produced the movie alongside Cooper. The film was executive produced by Film Independent Spirit Award nominee David Gordon Green.

The film has been an official selection at numerous film festivals, including the Palm Springs International Film Festival, the Florida Film Festival (where it won the Special Jury Award for best screenplay), the Phoenix Film Festival (where it won best picture) and Cinequest (where it won best comedy feature).
“Burt” is slated for release on June 23, joining Filmhub’s library of over 30,000 titles. News of the acquisition comes ahead of World Parkinson’s Day, which takes place on April 11.
“Films like ‘Burt’ are the reason we built Filmhub,” stated Alan d’Escragnolle, the company’s co-founder and CEO. “Joe, Oliver, Burton, and the entire filmmaking team have created something as entertaining as it is powerful — a film that deserves a wide audience but might once have struggled to secure distribution. We are honored that Filmhub will get to introduce this poignant story to audiences.”

As one of the world’s largest distributors, Filmhub works across 130 partners and channels in more than 200 territories to release hundreds of films and series each month. Channel partners include Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Tubi, The Roku Channel and YouTube Movies & TV. “Burt” is available to pre-order on Apple.
The filmmakers will donate a portion of their earnings through the first month of its release to various Parkinson’s foundations, including PCLA: Parkinson’s Community Los Angeles. Filmhub will also donate a portion of its profits to these organizations.
