“Saturday Night Live” alum Tina Fey is set to pass the baton across the pond as she returns to the franchise to host the very first episode of the show’s U.K. version, “Saturday Night Live U.K.” She will be accompanied by the show’s inaugural musical guest, Wet Leg, on March 21, along with the show’s cast, consisting of Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young.
Fey will be followed by “Fifty Shades” star Jamie Dornan as host and Wolf Alice as musical guest on March 28 and Riz Ahmed, who is launching a new Prime Video comedy “Bait,” with Kasabian on April 4.
Each 75-minute episode will be broadcast live from London at 10pm local time, following a similar format to the U.S. original. Episodes of “Saturday Night Live U.K.” will hit Peacock the day after they initially air on the U.K.’s Sky One and Now. Variety understands that “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels and fellow alum Seth Meyers have been in London in recent weeks to sit in on table reads as the cast and writers prep for the inagurual episode. Like its Stateside counterpart, “SNL U.K.” will be written, rehearsed and performed in the week of broadcast and will include an opening monologue, topical sketches, a live musical act and even satirical news segment “Weekend Update.”
