Erin Barrier has been promoted to senior vice president of communications for The Walt Disney Studios, stepping into the role filled by Paul Roeder. In her new position, Barrier where she oversees global communications strategy across The Walt Disney Studios and the company’s various production banners, which include Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, and Searchlight Pictures; Disney Theatrical Group; and Disney Music Group. Roeder has been elevated to chief communications officer of Disney.
The move comes as Disney has undertaken a leadership transition at the top of the company with former Disney Parks chief Josh D’Amaro taking over as CEO from Bob Iger. It’s also a busy time at the studio, where Disney is gearing up for a slate of blockbuster releases such as “Toy Story 5,” “The Avengers: Doomsday” and the “Star Wars” spinoff, “The Mandalorian and Grogu.”
Barrier has spent more than 15 years at The Walt Disney Company, most recently serving as vice president of communications for The Walt Disney Studios, where she led corporate communications. Previously, Barrier served as vice president of communications for the consumer products business, overseeing franchise, licensing, and retail communications and leading global campaigns including Frozen Fan Fest, Star Wars: Force Friday, Pixar Fest, and Black Panther: Welcome to Wakanda, among others. Prior to that, she held a series of leadership roles within Disney Consumer Products. Barrier began her career at Golin, where she rose to senior account supervisor, before joining Disney in 2012. She holds a bachelor of arts in Communication, with a minor in political science, from San Diego State University.
